Welcome Address by the Head of the Technology Engineering Department – Iraq University College
PROF. DR. HAMZA ABBASS AL-SEWADI
Hamza Abbass Al_Sewadi is currently a full professor and head of the Computer Technology Department at Iraq University College, Basrah, Iraq. He got his B.Sc. degree in 1968 from Basrah University, Iraq, then M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in 1973 and 1977 respectively, from King’s College, University of London, UK. He worked as professor at various universities including Basrah University (Iraq), Zarqa University, Isra University, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, and Middle East University (Jordan), and visiting professor at University of Aizu (Japan). His research interests include Cryptography, Steganography, Information and Computer Network Security, Authentication, Discrete Algorithms, Digital Signature, Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks.
The department aims to graduate engineers, technicians have the ability to set up and operation, maintenance and programming of computers and electronic accessories qualifies as a graduate engineer section to be “applied” has the ability to design, implementation, maintenance and operation of all systems, computers and be able to:
- Possession of a scientific and practical skill of being able to diagnose faults and conduct maintenance, and repairs to the system calculator
- Knowledge of the language of the machine for the purpose of understanding the details of the work of the calculator and its physical components.
- Detailed knowledge about the types of processors in terms of work and the washing maps and maps of control.
- Conduct research and studies on Computing and alternatives can be used, and the continued development and maintenance work in computers.

- Providing students with knowledge, vocational and basic skills, practical skills for being able to diagnose faults and conduct maintenance, and repairs to computer systems
- Enhancing students’ ethical standards and personal communication skills.
- Continue the development of the courses in accordance with the needs of the job market.
- Encouraging faculty members and students to Conduct research and studies on Computing, propose pioneering ideas, and pursue learning permanently.
- Establishing communication links with relevant parties in the fields of engineering, training and research.
- Providing training and engineering technical consultations to relevant parties in the local community.

The department aims at graduating students in the skills of scientifically and practically capable and uses and processing of computer technologies in order to meet the needs in the labor market and keep pace with development and modern innovations and create a critical mindset for what is available in computer technologies for the purpose of improving the best.
What is the Specialty
Design of electronic circuits and dealing with computer, network and software components. Computer networks and digital communication systems and all modern technologies associated with this specialization in addition to the fields of computer electronics and electronic control systems and related and knowledge of software systems and details of their work.
