A lecturer from Al-Iraq University College receives the first international PhD in the field of Port, Coastal, and Marine Structures Engineering.

The lecturer and researcher at Al-Iraq University College, Engineer Ammar Ali Abdul-Safi, obtained his PhD from Tabriz State University with distinction in the field of Port, Coastal, and Marine Structures Engineering. He is the first international student to receive this degree from the university, according to an article published today on the official website of Tabriz State University. The article stated, “Engineer Ammar Ali Abdul-Safi obtained the first international PhD in Port, Coastal, and Marine Structures Engineering from the Civil Engineering Faculty at Tabriz University after defending his dissertation titled ‘Modeling and Exemplifying the Properties of Salt-Resistant Concrete Using Acetate Additives for Marine Structures.’ This study was presented as an important step toward finding affordable and environmentally friendly alternatives to protect Iraq’s port marine structures from corrosion, as a significant replacement for the currently used cathodic protection systems, which are costly and difficult to maintain at the ports of Basra province.”

The article also mentioned that in recent years, Basra province has witnessed massive investments in the construction and development of ports through the efforts of its administration. The university praised the work on the Grand Al-Faw Port, which is expected to become one of the largest ports in the Middle East upon completion, with construction progressing at a fast pace. This port is considered one of the significant projects on which the Iraqi government has expended a great deal of resources in recent years to complete. The university also praised the breakwater built for the port, which holds the Guinness World Record as the longest breakwater in the world.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Ammar Ali Abdul-Safi is one of the distinguished academic professionals who has worked as a permanent lecturer at Al-Iraq University College. He has supervised the graduation projects of dozens of students and has many research papers in his field of specialization, published in reputable journals under the name of Al-Iraq University College. We wish him continued success and prosperity.
